Mixed ACT Math
Mixed sets test whether you can recognize the topic first.
The rules
- Read the question and name the topic before computing.
- Use the quickest method: plug in the answer choices, pick numbers or sketch a picture.
- Skip and return to long problems, and keep an eye on the clock.
- Check that the answer matches what is being asked.
Watch out: Starting to calculate before you know what is being asked.
Worked example
If 3x + 2 = 20, what is 6x + 4?
- 6x + 4 is double 3x + 2.
- 2 · 20 = 40.
Answer: 40
